Biochemistry
Laboratory
The biochemistry lab is equipped with devices for
analysis of cellular processes. Here is a partial listing of the equipment
available in this lab:
| 1. Perkin Elmer Lambda 2 Spectrophotometer
- Used to measure concentrations of various
biological materials
- Measure absorbance or percent transmittance
of concentration-dependent dyes
- Continuous visible wavelength range of 200-1100
nm; UV/Visible relies on high-energy tungsten-halogen lamp to
penetrate samples
- Data reporting to printer/computer
|
|
| 2. Bio Tek Microplate
Reader
- Model EL 310 Autoreader- 96 well microplates
- Measures concentrations of various biological
materials
- Wavelength range of 380-750 nm using narrow
band interference filters
|
 |
| 3. Fisher Micro-Centrifuge
- Model 235B
- Used to separate particulate or macromolecular
material from solution
